Tradition tells us that believers throughout history have often taken the time between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday to observe the silence and stillness of a world that was once again without a Savior by fasting- leaning into the absence and feeling the void of separation once again- reminding ourselves just how much we need the Lord and making the triumph of resurrection and His return to our midst all the sweeter!
As a church this year we are welcoming the opportunity of going without as well, so that we too may also notice His ever-continuous presence in our lives and our great, daily need all the more. As a church we're observing an Easter Fast from sundown on Good Friday until sunrise on Easter Sunday, but what you may go without is up to you! Some ideas we suggest considering are:
- Sugar
- Salt
- Everything but Water and Broth
- Data/Wifi on your Smartphone
- All Screens Everywhere
- News Shows/Programs
- Video Games
- Meat
- Secular Music
- Driving
We're also spending time over the entirety of Saturday in prayer for our neighbors, community, nation, and families.
